Some linguists have found that before children acquire their mother tongue, they go through a process of "listening" for about one year, which we call: the silent period. It’s only when the influence of the silent period fades, that the child will speak its first words. This rule also applies to the acquisition of a second language.

Children at the ages of 2-6 come out of the silent period of English, it’s a critical period for children's English enlightenment. Children will actively speak some English phrases or short sentences, and mistakes are inevitable. Even if the Chinese learn Chinese and the Americans learn American, they will experience the indiscriminate subject, verb and object, and the wrong sentence expression. These can be improved through continuous and scientific learning in the later stage.

Listening and speaking ability is the foundation of learning English. The cultivation of listening ability especially requires long-term continuous nurturing and practice. We need to give children enough time to soak their ears in an English-speaking environment.  Gradually getting them used to the English thinking mode. We cultivate a sense of English, and they will then gradually acquire their listening ability. Parents need to patiently guide their children so that they can be more confident in learning.

At this stage, children’s learning needs streamlined content, clear rhythm, and necessary repetition. What can meet all these conditions at the same time are: nursery rhymes, English picture books that can be listened to, cartoons, etc.
